The Usurper

The first to fly is the first to fall
To fall into the arms of God
A god that weaves thy very life
On other lives upon the loom
Looming over this bedraggled land
A land of promises long broken
Is broken still more by wistful dreams
That fall before they ever fly

But who dares, who dares
To shuffle off this mortal coil
To spread broken wings
And tattered hands
To stagger on
With crippled feet
To dare force open
Sightless eyes
And burn the angels with their glower

For though the first to fly be the first to die
There will always be he who attempts the flight
And it only takes one to break the cycle
