Tell Me_a tribute to Shel Silverstein
Dare you dream?
Or ponder?
Or learn to fly?
On wings still broken
From days gone by?
Dare you believe in
tall tales?
Or black and white lies?
For dreams long forgotten
And hope meant to die?
Are you a child?
A wonder-er?
A mud-pie baker?
A Neverland, conductor?
A lie-through-your-teeth-er?
A medieval dragonslayer?
A heaven usurper?
Then come sit by this hearth friend
And tell me your story
I buy the tree
And make the popcorn strings
And paint the ornaments
And wrap the gifts
What for?
Christmas is not mine
Neither its culture nor its story
Had ever been mine
Yours
Ours
But when you roll amongst the tinsel and lights
Well
Even I can't be a wet blanket
......You know Santa won't come tonight if you don't go to sleep.
Behind every smile is a web of lies
Lies that foster a healthy smile
Smiles that make the world go 'round
Round and round these grins do flourish
Flourish and bloom upon each face
Faces that day to day do lie
Lie to maintain their tortured smiles
Upon a blinding white Stallion
Thou commest to save Illyria
With sword in thy hand
Shield on thy back
And a sweet maidenly face emerging from beneath thy helm
....to scoff at the rest of the army
He has but to smile
And his smile is your world
You cannot bear to regret anything
He is a god
From Olympus come
And you can't help but wrap him in your embrace
His lips upon yours
Are a blessing
Though the curses of heaven rain on your brow
But it's okay
He is happy
And you will protect that happiness to your final breath
I despaired not as I lay dying
For my purpose now is done
I've left angel in my wake
To stand and carry on
I've left the remnants of my armor
For my precious child to don
I've left a lover in my stead
To protect him when I've gone
When I've gone, when I've gone
He shall mourn me when I've gone
In the care of my sweet lover
Who will force him to move on
Move to battle his own demons
Swarming from the lands beyond
He shall shatter his own nightmare
And no longer be my son
And my lover shall stand watching
Til the day our child is gone
And I await the wondrous morning
When she comes into my arms

Good Night Sweet Prince-cess
Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more searing and more passionate
The gales but kiss the darling buds of May
While thou t'would burn through heaven's gates
For not near enough Apollo shines
And besides thy blaze, his visage does dim
And fair from fair the world declines
And days burn out in interim
But thy stars are ever in the sky
Remain the eyes of the discoverer
For besides thee, summer is but sweet lies
A brief repast to shroud thy fire
And til my children's children's hearts lie quiet
I shall love my prince(ss) in sweet sweet silence
